I started my first rotation today baby!!!
Yay!
I'm so excited.
I started my first rotation today with pediatrics.
1st day and we were already given assignments and presentations for tomorrow :(
Lucky for me the consultant is not mean
He's really nice
And this rotation is a duration of 6 weeks
The whole rotations both cores and electives are a total duration of 72 weeks
So my 72 weeks has started counting baby!!!
After that I'm through with med school
Then I have a whole lot of professional exams to write
I realised this(pediatrics- kids) is one of the most fragile fields in medicine alongside geriatrics (elderly people).
A good number of our patients today were babies and others children
The babies were so fragile
I think pediatrics is a bit complicated cos in cases of babies or kids that can't talk, they can't tell you what is wrong with them or their symptoms
You just have to go with what you see and the parent's observations
And confirm it with possible tests to diagnose
Right now I'm confused in what to specialise in, but I still have time to figure that out
I'm not so sure about specialising in pediatrics again, I'm changing my mind
When I do rotations in other fields I'll see the ones I like best or enjoy most
Till then I'll know
But for now I'll just focus on my rotations and on being a better medical student/doctor
I better go to sleep now
My first day went great
The only hitch was that I got tired from standing up for a long time
I have to get used to standing up for a long time cos stamina is needed as a doctor
Some surgeries take hours and I'll have to stand for even longer hours so I better get used to it now
Its 2:06a.m and I'm still up
I have to be at the hospital before 9a.m and its not close to my house
A good number of the kids had asthma and allergies, and one had a swollen thyroid gland
Some of my presentation topics are "Failure to thrive (FTT)", "Downs syndrome", "Edwards syndrome", "Patau syndrome".
Only me!!!
I better go to bed now before I wake up late
Nyte!!!
